Material Pick-up

All materials should be at the curb by 7:00 am Wednesday morning.  If refuse materials are not properly prepared, the garbage hauler may tag items and not pick them up at the curb.  If  you have questions or need to report a missed pickup of refuse, recycling, yard waste, or a bulky item, please contact the Mid Michigan Waste Authority at (989) 781-9555 or you may contact our office at (989) 695-9512.

Refuse

Bulky Items

MMWA residents are allowed up to two bulk items per week. Bulk items should be placed at the curb, along with other properly prepared materials, no later than 7:00 am on your regular service day. MMWA does not schedule bulk pick-up in advance. The trash driver is responsible for collecting your properly prepared bulk item and getting it scheduled for pick up. If the truck is full, or the driver is not able to collect the item by himself, the driver should be placing an orange (WM communities) or yellow (Priority Waste communities) sticker on the material marking the box that reads item pick up scheduled do NOT remove from the curb. The bulk truck runs 1-2 business days behind the regular trash truck.

You can find preparation instructions for most items by using MMWA’s “What Do I Do With it?” search engine on our homepage. If you are still unsure, call MMWA at (989) 781-9555 before you put your bulky item to the curb.

Brush

One bundle of brush is allowed per week. To make a bundle of brush, take your larger branches (two to six inches around) and cut them so they are no longer than four feet. Secure these branches at both ends with twine or duct tape. Your bundle should be no larger than three feet around and weigh no more than 50 pounds. Set your bundle at the curb along with your trash, not your yard waste.

Yard Waste

  • Includes grass clippings, sod without dirt, twigs (less than 2" diameter), etc. No root balls or stumps
  • Place in 35 gallon or smaller trash can or paper yard waste bag weighing less than 50 lbs
  • Cans need a "Yard Waste" sticker; bags do not ( yard waste stickers available at the Township Office for free)
  • Waste pick-up is every Wednesday beginning the first full week of April through the first full week of December
  • After Christmas and during the month of January, MMWA will offer live, unadorned Christmas tree recycling as part of its yard waste program. Please remove all decorations, ornaments, lights, tree stand and place the tree out at the curb on your normal service day by 7:00 am for collection. Tree recycling is only available to member communities who have yard waste. Artificial and adorned Christmas trees will be collected as bulk waste in all MMWA member communities.

Recycling

MMWA accepts aluminum and metal cans, cartons, glass bottles and jars, cereal boxes, newspaper, magazines, office paper, junk mail, and cardboard, all plastic bottles, jars, and tubs and more at the curb. Other items such as plastic bags should be returned to a retailer, Styrofoam should be returned to the Saginaw Children’s Zoo, and tanglers, like hangers and cords, should not be placed in your curbside recycling. Let that intact piece of paper be recycled but don’t put that shredded paper in your MMWA curbside recycling!
